Pack a lunch and join your friends and family at these perfect Midland picnic spots.

Having a picnic is a great way to help the family bond as you spend time outdoors. It also lets everyone have fun together very inexpensively, and there's just something about sharing a meal together outdoors that makes it special. And after you're done, many picnic spots offer additional activities such as hiking or fishing to help you continue the fun.

Our REALTORS® suggest heading to the following destinations — which are conveniently located close to Midland homes for sale — to enjoy a picnic:

  • Emerson Park - 1300 West Main St., Midland, MI 48640
    Emerson Park
has a good mix of sun and shade so you can pick the perfect spot for your picnic. If you'd rather have your meal in a designated shelter or area, you can reserve your choice of three shelters or five picnic areas. Each shelter is conveniently located within walking distance of park restrooms. You can also choose from several activities to try after your picnic, including horseshoes, shuffleboard, or fishing. A paved path that runs along the Tittabawassee River is also a good choice for getting in some exercise and soaking up some more of the park's natural beauty along a tree-lined path.

  • Chippewassee Park 101 Golfside Dr., Midland MI 48640
One of Midland's most popular recreational sites, Chippewassee Park provides picnic tables as well as grills to use. If you're planning a picnic for a larger crowd, a large shelter is also available for rental. While you're there, let the kids play on a mega-tower and play equipment, or let everyone walk, bike, or jog on a paved 1,000-foot trail loop. If you have a dog, bring him or her along for a visit to the onsite dog park, which has wooded and open areas and agility courses for your pet to romp through.

  • Stratford Woods Park 3922 E. Ashman St., Midland, MI 48642
Head to Stratford Woods Park, which is situated around man-made Kiwassee Lake, to picnic and spend the afternoon. Pick your own spot to spread out on, or for large groups, use one of the two picnic shelters. The lake has a sandy beach with a playground structure on it, and you'll also find beach volleyball courts, a basketball court, a BMX track, and a gaga ball pit at the park.

  • Plymouth Park 1508 East Wheeler St., Midland, MI 48642
    Plymouth Park
packs plenty of family fun into its 40 acres, including several picnic shelters. You can also choose to picnic in the park's large open field. The most popular shelter is located next to the Fun Zone, a 16,000-square-foot wooden playground. More play equipment is located on the park's south end, and you'll also find a sand volleyball pit and baseball fields. During the summer, an outdoor community pool with an accessible zero-depth entry is also available to help increase the fun.

  • Gerstacker Spray Park 100 Ashman St., Midland MI 48640 and Longview Spray Park, 401 Lemke St., Midland, MI 48642
Let your kids wear their swimsuits under their clothes and head to Gerstacker Spray Park near downtown or Longview Spray Park near the intersection of Bay City Road and Waldo. Picnic at the park and then let them play underwater spouts with fun features like dumping buckets. Water shoes are recommended at both parks since surfaces can sometimes be slippery.
