Nothing cools off a hot summer day quite like ice cream. Visit these Midland shops to find the best frozen desserts.

When you're trying to cool off on a hot day, why not stop by a Midland shop for a refreshing smoothie or ice cream cone? With delicious flavors and a blast of cold, they're the ideal summer treat.

Our REALTORS® suggest finding frozen treats at these Midland staples:

  • Great Lakes Ice Cream Co. - 901 E. Ashland St., Midland, MI 48640
For 20 years, Great Lake Ice Cream Co. has served frozen treats to residents of Midland and the surrounding areas. The owner has seen kids who visited in the business's early years grow up and now bring their own kids in for what he calls a "20-minute vacation." Try the Chocolate Caramel Cashew, an ice cream made with locally roasted cashews, cocoa, and caramel swirls. You'll even find options if you're eating non-dairy, including ice cream cookie sandwiches, which have a scoop of non-dairy Cookies n' Cream ice cream between two Oreos. If you'd like to order more to take home, try the s'mores ice cream cake, a decadent creation made with a chocolate cake base, chocolate ice cream, marshmallow cream, and a graham cracker crust.

  • Cottage Creamery - 5317 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland, MI 48642
You'll find Cottage Creamery at the Mile Marker 3 Pere Marquette Rail Trail access point in Midland, so if you're walking, biking, or running on part of the 30-mile trail, it's easy to stop for a sweet treat. Games and puzzles are available inside if you'd like to relax and play, or you can take your frozen treat outside to a lawn chair or picnic table. Choose from more than 30 flavors of ice cream that you can eat in a cone or cup or order in a smoothie or slushie. If you'd like, add mix-ins, toppings, or sauces such as cookie dough, Oreos, or peanut butter sauce.

  • Heather 'n Holly - 228 Main St., Midland, MI 48640
Walking into Heather 'n Holly is like taking a nostalgic trip back into an old-fashioned candy shop, complete with wooden floors and glass display cases filled with goodies. Located in downtown Midland under the bright purple awning, the store has everything from gourmet caramel corn to 10 flavors of homemade fudge. And if you'd like to cool off, you'll find 24 flavors of Ashby's Ice Cream available, including Carrot Cake, Nana's Banana Puddin', and No Sugar-Added Butter Pecan. Treat yourself to something in the shop, order more to take home, or buy a custom-made gift basket filled with unique flavors for a friend, co-worker, or client.

  • Live Oak Coffeehouse - 711 Ashman St., Midland, MI 48640
Cool off with your choice of frozen treats at Live Oak Coffeehouse, including refreshing smoothies in a variety of flavors. A number of add-ons are available to help you customize your smoothie, including whipped cream or coconut, almond, or soy milk. Frozen smoothie pucks in strawberry banana or green flavors are also available. If you're outside Midland, try Live Oak's other locations in Bay City and Saginaw.

  • The Coffee Grounds Shoppe - 4951 Eastman Ave., Midland, MI 48640
Stop in for a treat at The Coffee Grounds Shoppe, or if you're in a hurry, grab something for the road in the drive-thru. Frozen smoothies are served throughout the day and are a hit with adults and kids alike. Choose from Strawberry, Strawberry and Banana, Very Berry, or Peach, Pear, and Apricot.
